Grant Wambold

January 19, 1931 — April 14, 2025

Grant F. "Pappy" Wambold, 94, of Moore Township, passed away peacefully with loving family by his side, while in the care of the Inpatient Hospice at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, on Monday, April 14, 2025. His loving wife of nearly 70 years, the former Joanne A. Muffley, passed away on March 8th.

Born in Nazareth, Grant was one of 12 children born to the late William M. Sr. and Edith S. (Frantz) Wambold. A proud veteran, he honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Affectionately known to his family and friends as Pappy, he had a successful 35-year-career as a heavy equipment operator with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 542. He also possessed a knack for being a handyman, and following his early retirement from the union, Pappy worked for 20 years with his brother, Robert, for Penn Crest Apartments in Allentown. He was a faithful member of Emmanuel's Lutheran Church as well as a life-member of the Eckley E. Patch American Legion Post 470, Bath. Firmly established in the heritage of the Wambold family, Pappy was a race car enthusiast, and he was also a big game hunter. Another favorite pastime of Pappy's was going to the casino, which he and Joanne greatly enjoyed. The pride in ownership of his home was apparent in the meticulous manner in which he maintained his property, but more importantly, it was his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle for which he will be deeply missed.

Survivors: He is survived by his daughter, Sandra J. Frey of Moore Township; two grandsons, Philip Frey and fiancee, Lindsey Shak, of Bethlehem Township, and Brandon Frey and companion, Kristin, and her children, Santina and Emilio, of Moore Township; two great-grandchildren, Karissa Frey and partner, Jesse, and Spencer Frey and partner, Tarren; a brother, Robert Wambold of Bushkill Township; a sister, Arlene Smith of Wind Gap; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Joanne, he was predeceased by four brothers, George F., Stanley E., William M. Jr., and Earl R. Wambold; five sisters, Betty L. Muffley, Gladys M. Bensing, Geraldine V. Snyder, Loraine D. Rissmiller, and Shirley A. Heckman; and son-in-law, Leonard L. Frey.

Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in Emmanuel's Lutheran Church, 3175 Valley View Drive, Bath (Emanuelsville), PA 18014.
