JoAnn Mitman, 83, of Lower Nazareth Township, passed away peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg Campus in Bethlehem. She was the wife of Luther R. Mitman. The couple observed their 63rd wedding anniversary on January 20.
Born in Wilson Borough, JoAnn was a daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy I. (Johnson) Wallace. She attended Nazareth High School. A member of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union, she was employed at the former Pioneer Sportswear in Stockertown. JoAnn later worked in the cafeteria at Northampton Community College and Weis Market on Route 512 in Bethlehem, before retiring in 2003. She was a member of Dryland United Church of Christ, Newburg, a life-member of East Lawn Social Club, as well as a member of the VFW and Nazareth Vigilance. In her spare time, JoAnn enjoyed puzzles and was an avid reader.
Survivors: In addition to her loving husband, Luther, she will be dearly missed by her children, Renee Azzalina and husband, Sam, of Brown Summit, North Carolina, and Gary Mitman of Lower Nazareth Township; two grandchildren, Christopher Mitman of Martins Creek, and Holly Allison and husband, Jason, of Palmyra; a brother, Fred Wallace and wife, Pam, of Palm Coast, Florida; along with nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Michelle M. (Millheim) Mitman, in 2018; and two sisters, Barbara Ann Wheeler and Marion Williams.
Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. in the GEORGE G. BENSING FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2165 Community Drive, Route 946, in the Village of Moorestown - Bath, PA 18014. Friends and Relatives are invited to call on Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. and Thursday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will follow in Hope Cemetery, Hecktown. Online expressions of sympathy may be recorded at: bensingfuneralhome.net.
