Thomas A. “Turkey” Weaver, Sr., 88, of Upper Nazareth Township, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Gracedale Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of Gloria M. (Frantz) Weaver. The couple would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on September 17.
Born in Nazareth, he was a son of the late Wilson F. and Raphie L. (Merola) Weaver. A standout athlete and 1953 graduate of Nazareth High School, Tom lettered in baseball and was an outstanding pitcher for the Blue Eagles. Upon graduating, he was a serious prospect for playing professional baseball and offered tryouts with several MLB teams. Additionally, Tom was a lineman on the Nazareth football team who were undefeated from 1949 to 1952. He was inducted into the Nazareth Athletic Hall of Fame. For many years, Tom enjoyed playing American Legion Baseball and was a founder of the Nazareth Clippers Athletic Association and also coached the baseball team. Throughout his life, he remained an ardent supporter of the Nazareth Blue Eagles and was a true sportsman at heart. Always competitive, the game of golf was one of Tom’s favorite pastimes. He was employed at Ingersoll-Rand in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, where he was a machinist in Turbo Division for many years, until retiring. Tom was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nazareth.
Survivors: In addition to his loving wife, Gloria, he will be dearly missed by his two children, Carol Weaver of Nazareth, and Thomas A. Weaver, Jr. and wife, Cynthia, of Nazareth; two grandsons, Andrew Weaver, and Thomas A. Weaver, III and wife, Kimberly; a great-grandson, Bryce; along with nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his three sisters, Nancy L. Stout, Joanne K.Schleicher, and Karmen M. Keim.
Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 12 Noon in the GEORGE G. BENSING FUNERAL HOME, LLC, 2165 Community Drive, Route 946, in the Village of Moorestown - Bath, PA 18014. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday morning from 11:00 A.M. to 12 Noon in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Nazareth.
